When a sentence is served at the same time as another sentence the offender is serving, rather than one after the other. For example, a person who is sentenced to 2 years imprisonment for one offence, and 2 years imprisonment for another offence, would serve a total of 2 years imprisonment under a concurrent sentence, rather than 4 years.
